Artificial intelligence is everywhere.

ChatGPT. Claude. Gemini. Grok. DeepSeek. Mistral. Perplexity.

Seven AI platforms, all promising to help people work smarter, solve problems, and make better decisions.

But here’s something I’ve been wondering.

How does an ordinary person figure out which AI is actually useful?

Not which one scores highest on some technical benchmark. Not which company has raised the most money. And certainly not which AI company has the best marketing department.

Which one actually helps people?

That’s the question behind a new KODA8 product we’re introducing today.

Welcome to theAI7.

What Is theAI7?

The idea is pretty simple.

Seven AI systems. One question. Seven answers.

We take a question that matters to ordinary people and ask seven leading AI platforms to answer it.

Every platform receives the exact same question.

Then we compare their answers.

What did they get right? What did they miss? Which answers were actually helpful? Did anyone make something up? Did they all say basically the same thing?

And perhaps most importantly, would any of their answers actually help someone make a better decision?

We’re not interested in complicated technical evaluations. There are already plenty of people doing those.

We’re interested in everyday life.

Work. Family. Education. Money. Technology. Sports. Retirement. The things people actually think about.

And we’re going to explain what we find in plain English.

No hype. No unnecessary technical language. No pretending AI is always right.

Meet theAI7

We selected seven platforms for our inaugural lineup.

They’re not necessarily the seven best AI systems in the world. We haven’t tested them yet.

They’re our starting point.

1. ChatGPT — OpenAI

One of the most recognizable consumer AI platforms. ChatGPT is a natural starting point for understanding what conversational AI can do.

2. Claude — Anthropic

Known for writing, analysis, and handling complicated questions. We’re interested in how Claude approaches practical everyday problems.

3. Gemini — Google

Google’s AI platform, with connections to an ecosystem many people already use every day.

4. Grok — xAI

Another major AI platform with its own approach to answering questions and presenting information.

5. DeepSeek — DeepSeek

Developed in China, DeepSeek brings an important international perspective to our initial lineup.

6. Mistral Le Chat — Mistral AI

Developed by France-based Mistral AI, Le Chat brings a European AI developer into our comparisons.

7. Perplexity — Perplexity AI

An AI-powered research and answer platform with an emphasis on finding information and providing sources.

Seven different platforms.

Seven opportunities to learn something.

Why Did We Choose These Seven?

There are dozens of AI platforms available today, and new ones keep appearing.

We wanted a group that represents different companies, different approaches to AI, and tools ordinary people can actually access.

We considered accessibility, usefulness, reputation, geographic diversity, and whether each platform offers something interesting to compare.

We also wanted a mix of general-purpose assistants and platforms with different strengths.

But let’s be clear about something.

Being selected for theAI7 isn’t an endorsement.

We’re not saying these are the seven smartest systems or the seven best subscriptions to buy.

We’re saying these are seven platforms worth examining.

They’ll have to demonstrate their value through the comparisons.

A Global Perspective

There’s another important part of this idea.

We want theAI7 to be international.

Artificial intelligence isn’t just an American technology story.

Important developments are happening in Europe, Asia, and other parts of the world.

Our inaugural lineup includes:

  • United States: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and Perplexity.
  • France: Mistral AI.
  • China: DeepSeek.

Five American platforms, one French platform, and one Chinese platform.

That’s not perfect international representation, and we’re not pretending otherwise.

But it’s a start.

As theAI7 develops, we want to consider promising platforms from other countries, including Japan, South Korea, Canada, and emerging AI markets.

We won’t assume that an AI system thinks or responds a certain way simply because of where its developer is located.

We’ll examine the actual answers.

Our goal isn’t to determine which country builds the best AI.

Our goal is to find out which AI systems, wherever they’re developed, provide the most useful answers to ordinary people.

After all, this product is being introduced through theGLOBALMARKET.ai.

The word global should mean something.

Meet Our Question Master: Microsoft Copilot

We decided early on that we needed a consistent way to develop questions.

We also wanted to avoid having one of the seven participants write the questions it would later answer.

That’s where Microsoft Copilot comes in.

We’re using the free version of Microsoft Copilot as our inaugural Question Master.

Copilot’s job is to help us develop questions that are clear, fair, practical, and relevant to everyday people.

It helps identify confusing wording, unnecessary assumptions, and questions that might favor one type of AI system over another.

But Copilot doesn’t get to decide who wins.

It doesn’t grade the responses.

And it doesn’t get a seat among the seven participants.

KODA8 reviews and approves each question before testing.

Copilot is a question-development tool, not an independent referee. Like every AI platform, it has its own limitations.

We think separating question development from the participating systems is a sensible place to start.

How theAI7 Works

We want the process to be straightforward and transparent.

Step 1: Find a question worth asking.

Not a technical trick question. Not something designed to embarrass an AI company.

A question that ordinary people genuinely care about.

Step 2: Develop the question with Copilot.

Copilot helps us refine the wording. KODA8 approves the final version.

Step 3: Ask all seven AI systems.

Each platform receives the same question.

We’ll document which platform and access level we used, along with the date of the comparison.

Step 4: Compare the answers.

We’ll look at accuracy, clarity, usefulness, practicality, and whether the answers actually address the question.

We’ll verify important factual claims against reliable sources where possible.

Step 5: Publish what we find.

Sometimes one answer may stand out.

Sometimes several platforms may provide equally useful answers.

Sometimes all seven may miss something important.

And sometimes we may conclude that AI isn’t the best solution at all.

We’re fine with that.

The point isn’t to manufacture a winner.

The point is to help people make better decisions.

What Happens When the AI Landscape Changes?

Here’s something we know already.

The seven platforms we selected today won’t necessarily be the seven we’d select five years from now.

AI is changing too quickly.

Some platforms will improve dramatically. Others may fall behind. Companies may merge, get acquired, change their pricing, or disappear.

We expect that.

The AI7 is a format, not a lifetime membership.

If a platform consistently performs poorly, we’ll report that. One bad answer won’t get anyone removed, but repeated problems may lead us to reconsider its place.

If a company gets acquired, we’ll evaluate what actually changes. An acquisition alone won’t automatically disqualify it.

If a platform becomes unavailable, we’ll find a replacement.

If a promising new platform emerges, we’ll consider including it.

If two participants become essentially the same product, we’ll ask whether including both still makes sense.

And if a platform becomes too expensive for ordinary consumers, that matters too.

We intend to review the lineup every six months, with earlier changes when necessary.

When a participant changes, we’ll explain why.

Previous comparisons will remain identified with the systems originally tested.

We won’t quietly rewrite history.

How Will We Choose Future Participants?

We’ll use five basic considerations.

Accessibility: Can ordinary people actually use it?

Usefulness: Does it help solve real-world problems?

Reliability: Does it provide reasonably trustworthy and consistent answers?

Distinctiveness: Does it offer something meaningfully different from the other participants?

Affordability: Is it practical for the people we’re trying to reach?

We may also invite additional AI platforms into special comparisons before making any permanent changes.

We’re not loyal to any particular AI company.

We’re interested in what works.

Why We’re Doing This

I spent a long time working in technology.

And one thing I’ve learned is that technology companies are often very good at explaining how impressive their products are.

They’re not always as good at explaining why ordinary people should care.

Artificial intelligence may be one of the most important technologies of our lifetime.

But that doesn’t mean everyone needs to understand how a large language model works.

Most people just want to know what they can do with it.

Can it help them at work?

Can it help their children?

Can it save time or money?

Can it explain something confusing?

Can it make a difficult decision a little easier?

And when should they be skeptical of the answer?

Those are the questions that interest us.

We want theAI7 to become a trusted place where people can see what different AI systems actually deliver.

We’re starting small.

One question at a time.

What’s Next?

We’ll present the inaugural question to all seven platforms, collect their responses, and publish our independent comparison.

You’ll be able to see what each AI said, where they agreed, where they differed, and what we learned.

And as theAI7 develops, we want readers to suggest questions of their own.

Because ultimately, this isn’t about seven technology companies.

It’s about the people using their products.

Seven AI systems. One question. Seven answers.

You decide what matters.

Welcome to theAI7.
